Three people have died due to the impact of cyclonic storm Bulbul in Khulna and Patuakhali districts. All three of them died on Sunday. In Khulna, two people died in separate incidents after a tree fell over them during the storm in Dacope and Dighalia upazilas of the district. The deceased are Pramila Mandal, 52, a resident of the Dacope upazila, and Alamgir Hossain, 30, of Dighalia upazila.
Alamgir died when a tree fell on him as he was clearing the debris from the storm on the grounds of his house Sunday morning, Senhati Union Parishad Secretary Pradip Kumar Biswas confirmed. Earlier on the day, a woman named Pramila died under similar circumstances. Sheikh Abdul Quader, duty officer of a cyclone control room of Dacope Upazila Parishad told that Pramila took refuge at a government shelter, South Dacope Cyclone Centre, on Saturday (November 9).
However, on Sunday morning, she returned to her house, which was located near the shelter to assess the damages and died there – around 9am – when a tree fell over her, he added. In Patuakhali, an elderly man died as his house collapsed due to the cyclonic storm around 3am in Madhabkhali area of Mirzaganj upazila. The deceased is Hamid Fakir, 65, Mirzaganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) MdSarwar Hossain told. He said a tree fell over Hamid’s house causing it to collapse, killing him on the spot.
