SAG2019: Bangladesh bags all 10 golds in archery

Bangladesh bagged all ten gold medals in the archery events of 13th South Asian Games while setting a number of records in Pokhara Stadium in Nepal today. Ruman Shana, Ety Khatun won gold in the men’s and women’s recurve individual events while Md Sohel Rana and Suma Biswas won men’s and women’s compound individual gold respectively. Bangladesh on Sunday bagged all six gold from as many recurve and compound team and mixed events.

Archery has crossed swimming, that won six gold in 1985 Games in Dhaka, to win highest gold medal in a single edition of the Games. Ruman won the 10th and last gold after beating Bhutanese Kinley Tshering by 7-1 sets in the recurve men’s individual final.  Ety Khatun bagged her first international individual gold medal after beating Dema Sonam of Bhutan by 7-3 sets in the womens recurve individual final today. The 14-year-old yesterday won two team gold medals in women’s recurve team and recurve mixed team events. She is the youngest girl to win three gold medals in a single edition of Games.

Md Sohel Rana defeated Tandin Dorji of Bhutan by 137-136 points in the men’s compound individual final to bag eighth straight gold in SAG 2019 archery events. Suma Biswas has bagged Bangladesh’s seventh consecutive gold in archery in the 13th South Asian Games at Pokhara Stadium in Nepal today. Suma defeated Anuradha Karunarante of Sri Lanka in the women’s compound individual final by 142-134 points to clinch the day’s first gold medal. Adding these four medals, Bangladesh has now won 18 gold medals in the event equaling 2010 SA Games gold tally. Bangladesh won three golds from karate, two from weightlifting, one each from women’s cricket, taekwondo and fencing.
