Bangladesh lose 2nd T20 against Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh by 23 runs in the second T20I of the three-match series to level the series 1-1 at Harare Sports Club today. In reply to Zimbabwe’s 167/6, Bangladesh all out for 143 in 19.5 overs. Debutant Shamim Hossain’s 29 off 13 was the top scorer for Bangladesh. Afif Hossain scored second highest 24 off 24.

Chasing the target Bangladesh lost two openers on 17. At one stage they were 68/6. They were able to cross 140 runs mark as debutant Shamim Hossain and Afif Hossain shared 41 runs in the 7th wickets stand. But their efforts were not enough to seal victory for Bangladesh. Masakadza took 3 wickets for 20 while Jongwe bagged 3 for 31.

Earlier, Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bowl first in the second T20I against Bangladesh at Harare Sports Club. Wessley Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani opened the innings for Zimbabwe. But their start was not good as young all-rounder Mahedi Hasan struck in his first and innings’ second over to remove Zimbabwe Marumani for 3. Spinner Shakib Al Hasan struck in his second ball to remove dangerous Chakabva for 14 and Zimbabwe lost their second wickets on 42 in 5.2 over.

Wessley Madhevere and Dion Myers added 57 runs for the third wickets stand before the latter was dismissed by Shoriful Islam scoring 26 off 21. Although Madhevere was playing good scoring shorts Zimbabwe lost wickets at regular intervals on the other end. Skipper Sikandar Raza (4) was run out from direct through off Soumya. But Ryan Burl’s late cameo 19-ball 34 helped Zimbabwe to post 166/6.

Madhevere scored team highest 73 off 57 his innings consist of five fours and three sixes. For Bangladesh, pacer Shoriful Islam took 3 for 33 while Mahedi Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket each.
