Fazle Rabbi’s Gaibandha-5 seat by-election Oct 12

The by-election in Gaibandha-5, the parliamentary seat of late Deputy Speaker Md. Fazle Rabbi Miah, will be held on October 12. Election Commission (EC) additional secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath announced the election schedule after the commission meeting on Tuesday.
The 6th EC meeting started at 3 pm in the meeting room of the election building in the capital on Tuesday. The meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal was attended by other Election Commissioners and senior officials of the EC.
The EC additional secretary said that the last day for submission of nomination papers is September 13, the date of selection of nominations is September 15, the filing of appeals against the selection of nomination papers is from September 16 to 18, and the disposal of appeals is from September 19 to 21, the last day for withdrawal of candidature is September 22, the allotment of symbols is September 23 and the polling is October 12.
On July 24, Parliament Secretariat Secretary KM Abdus Salam published a gazette declaring the seat of the late Deputy Speaker vacant.
It was mentioned that the Gaibandha-5 seat of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad has become vacant due to the death of FFazle Rabbi Miah, member of the Jatiya Sangsad and Deputy Speaker of the 11th National Parliament on July 23. The gazette announcing the vacant seat of the Parliament Secretariat has reached the Election Commission. Based on that, the EC has also started the initial preparation work.
