6 get death penalty for gang rape child in Khulna

A local court sentenced six people to death in a case filed over killing a child after rape at Sonadanga Bihari Colony area of Khulna. At the same time, they have been fined Tk 20 thousand each. Besides, four people have been sentenced to different terms of imprisonment. Judge Abdus Chalam Khan of Khulna Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-3 announced the verdict on Tuesday.
The court’s lawyer (PP) Farid Ahmed confirmed the news. The death convicts are – Morshedul Islam Shanto alias Shanto Biswas (fugitive), Sheikh Shahadat Hossain (fugitive), Md. Rabbi Hasan Parash, Md. Mahmud Hasan Akash, Kazi Ariful Islam Pritam (fugitive) and Md. Mim Hossain.
It is known that the victim met the accused Morshedul Islam Shanta two days before the incident. Based on that source, the accused Shanto called the victim over the mobile phone on June 29, 2019 at around 4:30 pm. Both met at a place called Saheb’s Graveyard. From there, the victim was taken to a rented house of the other accused in the case Nurunnabi’s Bihari Colony’s rented house under Sonadanga police station. Where Shanto raped the victim against her will and others present there recorded the video of the incident. Later, threatening to upload the rape video clip to the internet, Shanto’s associates also raped her in turn.
After the rape, the accused threatened to kill the victim and left her in the evening. Later the victim disclosed the incident to her elder sister. She was admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. The day after the incident, the elder sister of the victim filed a case with the Sonadanga police station naming nine accused. On November 13 of the same year, the investigating officer of the case, Sonadanga police station officer-in-charge Momtazul Haque, filed a charge sheet in the court, mentioning the names of 10 accused.
