In a desperate plea for mercy, Viqarunnisa Noon School and College student Aritry Adhikary fell to the feet of acting principal Nazneen Ferdous in front of her parents, when meeting with the official at her office on Monday, her father claimed. When her apology was not accepted, Aritry rushed out of the principal’s office and was later found to have hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her home.  Aritry’s father Dilip Adhikary gave a detailed account of what happened that day in the First Information Report (FIR) of a case he filed with Paltan Police Station on Tuesday night.Three Viqarunnisa teachers – principal Nazneen Ferdous, morning shift In-Charge Zinnat Ara, and class teacher Hasna Hena – were named as the accused in the case filed for instigating Aritry’s suicide.

In the FIR, Dilip said the invigilator of an examination seized a mobile phone Aritry took with her to the school on Sunday, December 2, and asked her to bring guardians to meet with the school authorities the next day. On Monday, Aritry and her parents went to the school and first met with class teacher Hasna Hena. After keeping them waiting for a long time, Hasna took the family to morning shift In-Charge and Assistant Head Teacher Zinnat. Zinnat became agitated when she saw the family and told them Aritry would be handed her transfer certificate, as the carrying of mobile phones during examinations was strictly prohibited. When Aritry’s parents begged for forgiveness for their child, Zinnat said there was nothing she could do. Subsequently, they met with principal Nazneen Ferdous at her office, where Aritry immediately fell to the feet of the official and begged for mercy. Aritry’s parents also repeatedly sought forgiveness, but their efforts were in vain, the case statement said.

With the principal unmoved by their appeals, Aritry eventually rushed out of the office. Her parents went looking for her, but could not find her at the school. They later found her at home, and Dilip left for work. However, after some time, Dilip received a phone call from his wife Beauty Rani Adhikary, and she told him that Aritry had locked herself in her room. Upon Dilip’s advice, Beauty called the apartment caretaker, who entered Aritry’s room through the bathroom ventilator. Inside, he found Aritry hanging from the ceiling fan.
