British pop singer Dua Lipa has just been named Best New Artist at the 2019 Grammys. The 23-year-old emerged into the spotlight with “New Rules” back in 2017, the leading track from her 2017 self-titled album, Dua Lipa. Her debut album, home to her platinum anthem “IDGAF,” was the third most streamed album in the U.K. and fourth globally on Spotify, according to BBC.

In 2018, Lipa was the most streamed female artist in the U.K. and second-most streamed female artist in U.S., largely credited to the success of her album and collaborations with producers Calvin Harris, Diplo and Mark Ronson. The London-native started her music career by posting covers on YouTube. In April 2018, Calvin Harris released “One Kiss” featuring Lipa; the upbeat single soared to No. 1 on multiple Billboard Dance/Electronic charts. In September, Silk City – the duo composed of music producers of Diplo and Mark Ronson – dropped another Lipa-featured track: the now, Grammy-winning record “Electricity.

Lipa was nominated for two Grammy awards: Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for the song “Electricity,” with Silk City (Diplo and Mark Ronson). Lipa and Silk City grabbed the Grammy for “Electricity” earlier in the evening. She performed “One Kiss” with St. Vincent before accepting the Best New Artist award. Lipa surpasses fellow newcomers Chloe X Halle, Luke Combs, Greta Van Fleet, H.E.R., Margo Price, Bebe Rexha and Jorja Smith. Source: Forbes
